Welcome to the first of three blog articles diving into favorite recipes of St. Charles restaurants. First on our list is DRM European Café & Delicatessen, where everyone can come together to taste and enjoy flavors rooted in history, familiarity and community. Explore their Pierogi recipe and more as DRM co-owner Jo Migo takes us in depth with their Pierogi recipe and more.
1. Where did this recipe come from?
“Our pierogi recipe has been created by experimenting using four main ingredients. Our current chefs, including Laura featured in the video, developed the perfect recipe! It’s the best!”
2. What’s your favorite memory tied to this recipe?
“For Dan, the memory that comes to mind is Sunday afternoon at Babcia’s house. My favorite pierogi recipes are enjoying them every Christmas Eve during our traditional Polish Christmas dinner called Wigilia.”
3. What else do you offer?
Salads at DRM at spectacular and like Jo said, only one of the amazing items offered there. Find their whole menu here.
“We also offer traditional Polish cabbage rolls, potato pancakes, Polish sausage & kraut, and chicken schnitzel as our most popular traditional entrees. We also offer gourmet sandwiches, homemade soups, salads, and fine European pastries.”
4. Ranked with your other recipes, where would this one fall among your other recipes and what would be the top three at your restaurant?
“Pierogi is by far the #1, followed by our cabbage rolls and the DRM corned beef reuben!”
5. How has St. Charles helped shaped this recipe?
“Dan and his family were sponsored by Saint John Neumann church in 1985 as an immigrant family. They settled here and have lived here ever since. This town is extra special to them….the people, the job opportunities to serve in this area, and the community in general. Dan was able to share with this town a special taste of his culture from back in Poland.”
